For a relatively small school, Montgrove is always buzzing with activity! Over the past two weeks alone, our students have taken part in a wide variety of enriching events and experiences:

• Years 9 and 10took part in a Food Technology/International Studies excursion
• Year 11went on a field study Geography excursionto the Field of Mars Reserve
• Year 12exploring the Blue Mountains on their Geography Excursion
• We celebrated the School Mass for the Feast of the Assumption
• We were honoured to welcome Bishop Vincent Long, on the Feast of The Queenship of Mary. The whole school gathered as Bishop Vincent crowned the statue of Maryin the school shrine

Congratulations to the following students who have recently received Principal's Awards

• The Infants Orchy went to Jadon Karthik who saw that another student didn't have his friends and asked if he would like to play with him

I recently came across a poem, by William Wordsworth, entitled “Perfect Woman”, highly recommendable, in which he is probably admiring his own wife, in various aspects of her personality, finishing in the third stanza, with a deeper, more realistic appreciation of her inner goodness… It is reminiscent of the biblical book of Proverbs, chapter 31, which is full of praise for a good wife, again highly recommendable.

The recent celebration of our School Mass, on August 15, highlighted the Mary as the ideal of womanhood, and I think that St Josemaria “nails it”, in the following point 566 of “Furrow”:

“‘Blessed are you for believing’, said Elizabeth to our Mother. —Union with God, supernatural virtue, always brings with it the attractive practice of human virtues: Mary brought joy to her cousin’s home, because she ‘brought’ Christ”.

This is an ideal that can realistically be pursued, both humanly and supernaturally, which is something of which, while we respect the freedom of one and all, we are mindful in the Pared schools.

Only 4 weeks to go for the 2025 Premier's Reading Challenge!!

Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 are challenged to read or experience 30 books. 20 of these books must be from the relevant Challenge booklists, and up to 10 books can be personal choice books. Books can be read with a parent, carer, teacher or another student.

Students in Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 20 books independently. At least 10 of these books must be from the relevant Challenge booklists, and up to 10 books can be personal choice books.

If a book is from an approved PRC series, students can enter up to 5 books as Challenge books, and can read up to 10 other books from the same series as Personal Choice books. More information on the rules of the Challenge can be found onthe PRC website.

Books must be added to a student’s online reading record by Friday 19 September 2025in order for their reading record to be validated and receive a certificate.

Year One took a big step back in time – all the way to the 1800s – as we visited the historic Rouse Hill Schoolhouse. From the moment the bus pulled away from school, excitement was high (and not just because of the novelty of sitting next to our best friends on the bus!).

Our students were an absolute credit to our school – so much so that the staff at Rouse Hill declared they were the bestgroup they had ever hosted. That’s quite the compliment, and one we proudly pass on to our amazing Year One families!

Our day was packed with hands-on learning and old-fashioned fun. The children dressed the part and truly embraced what school life was like in the 19th century – complete with slate boards, copperplate handwriting, and strict (but kind!) old-school teachers. Reading, writing, and arithmetic were on the menu, and it was heartwarming to see how engaged and enthusiastic our students were – even without iPads or interactive whiteboards!

• Lessons during class time for infants and primary students.  Before school lessons for secondary (or after school at a nearby private studio)
• Beginner to advanced levels taught
• Two optional student recitals held each year at the Joan Sutherland Centre
• AMEB piano and music theory examinations offered
• Teacher is accredited and a full member of the NSW Music Teacher’s Association
